When we think of regret, we think negatively. We look at “regret” as something that should have never happened. I don’t blame you because that’s just precisely the definition of it.
REGRET: Verb
- Feel sad, repentant, or disappointed over something that has happened or been done.
- Express disappointment for something unfortunate or unpleasant.
HOWEVER, regret isn’t so negative as how standard dictionaries define it. In other words, regret can be good. Being able to regret something can be a lifetime instruction of what NOT to repeat ever again. My senior year of high school, I had a teacher who once said, “It’s okay to regret. Regret is good. If you never regretted anything, you would never learn from your mistakes. You would just keep repeating them over and over again with no alternative to move forward.” Those paraphrased words, have stuck to me until this day.
You see guys, life is hard. Life doesn’t come with a “How To” manual. It’s not easy to always do the right thing, especially if you’ve never experienced a lot of things like friendships, love, betrayal or even something as simple as telling the truth. We all have to make mistakes to grow and know better. So don’t feel bad if you regret something. Just be aware you regret it in a positive way that will improve your life and not set you out to seek revenge or act in a hateful way. If you regret something that doesn’t mean you have to hate it. Give that situation the credit that it once made you smile and made you happy, but it wasn’t meant for you, so you will seek for what will be. REMEMBER: GOD DOESN’T GIVE YOU WHAT YOU WANT, HE GIVES YOU WHAT YOU NEED! ♥
XOXO, MariaLA
